Join us on Mondays throughout the year as we explore different science concepts on days set aside specifically for home school students! Various age-appropriate activities will be held in the Big Lab and adjacent classrooms. Each day will include hands-on activities, demonstrations, admission to the California Science Center exhibits and IMAX movie. The movie may or may not address the subject matter.

October 27, 2008: Rockets and Roller coasters

Explore forces and motion as you design your own roller coasters and rockets.
How is gravity involved in the movement of rockets and roller coasters?
IMAX movie: Sea Monsters 3D
November 17, 2008: All About Air
10 AM - 3:30 PM
You can’t see it, but there’s more than 14 pounds of it pushing on every inch of your body. Explore the properties of air as you experiment with gliders and sail boats.
January 12, 2009: Electricity
10 AM - 3:00 PM
Explore how electricity makes things move as you experiment with circuits and a Van de Graaff generator!
February 9, 2009: Acids and Bases
10 AM - 2:30 PM
Get an introduction to chemistry as you explore the difference between acids and bases. Get the chance to make your own chemical reactions!
March 16, 2009: Forensic Science
10 AM - 3:00 PM
From fingerprinting to DNA, find out how to analyze clues at a crime scene. Then, explore a mock crime scene in the CSI exhibit!
April 20, 2009: Your Insides Out
10 AM - 3:30 PM
Explore the human body as you take part in investigations of different systems! For older students, activities will include a dissection.
Prices
Students ages 5 and older: $20
Price includes all supplies for activities and IMAX admission
Adults and siblings ages 3 - 5: $5
$5 fee includes IMAX admission. Required ratio is 1 paying adult for 6 children. All students must have an adult accompany them to the IMAX and California Science Center.

Registration and full payment is due one week prior to the desired program date. All participants must be pre-registered. Cancellations made less than a week prior to the program date will not be refunded. All cancellations will be subject to a $15 processing fee.
Frequently Asked Questions
What ages are the programs appropriate for?
For classroom-type activities, students will be grouped according to age. Groups will be ages 5-8, 9-12 and 13 and up.
How many students can you accommodate?
Each age level will hold approximately 25-35 students, depending on the type of activity.
Where is the Big Lab?
The Big Lab is located on the campus of the California Science Center, in the Wallis Annenberg Building for Science Learning and Innovation. It is about 1-2 minute walk from the main building of the Science Center, next to the Air and Space Gallery.
Do we need to bring anything?
All supplies for the activities will be provided.
